Dillon Candy Company Announces Expansion
New Factory Store
Boston, GA, (November 2020) -- Dillon Candy Company announces its latest expansion. Tom Cook, CEO of Dillon Candy Company, related that “The need for increased space in our 20,000 square foot factory for manufacturing and shipping provided an opportunity to create a new storefront and retail outlet. We invite the general public to purchase our renowned, handmade candies in our new factory store. Dillon Candy Company recently celebrated its 100th year of producing impossible-to-resist confections and more than 75 of those years we have been located in Thomasville and Boston, GA. This latest project reinforces our commitment to Boston, Thomasville and the surrounding area.”
Located in Boston, GA since 1958, Dillon Candy Company traces its roots to 1918 when George Dillon began to cultivate his candy making skills in a grocery store in Brunswick GA. Soon he was joined in the candy business by his two brothers, Joe and Fred; and in the 1920’s they moved to Thomasville and opened a candy store on the corner of Jackson and Madison Streets. This was met with such success that they soon relocated to a factory on Oak Street and began producing confections for wholesale distribution. In the late 1930’s the factory was sold, and the Dillon brothers moved to Jacksonville, Florida. There, under the leadership of George Dillon, candy and peanut butter manufacturing flourished.
In 1958, George Dillon “retired” from candy making and moved his family to the Boston area to try his hand at farming. However, candy making was in his blood; and he and his wife Lucile soon began making candy in a converted barn in the back yard of their Boston residence. From this rebirth, a modest cottage industry developed with regional distribution of product. At Mr. Dillon’s death, Margaret Dillon Cook joined her mother in the business, and under her guidance distribution of Dillon’s confections to gourmet and natural food venues became national and international.
With pride, and appreciation of his candy-making heritage, Tom Cook, is honored to have the opportunity to continue this family tradition. “For over 100 years, my family has had a tradition of candy making, and I am proud to be able to continue that tradition today.”
